Netgear  SPH101 Skype WiFi phone

The Netgear SPH101 Skype WiFi phone  has been sold as one of the first of its kind. Its similar in looks to that of the Edge-Core and SMC models. Slightly on the expensive side there is a lot to like about this product. Its a real solution for making calls over the Internet remotely, so long as you are in range of a WiFi hotspot your flying.  .  

This phone connects to a wireless access point via a 802.11 b or g connection and a simple configuration wizard helps you to login to Skype.   Should you  wish you can even configure it to auto connect. while on the road you can toggle between the strongest signals to select the best WiFi network available and once you have connected if a password is needed it will prompt you. One thing that should be remembered is that some Internet cafes use proxies and DNS settings that can cause a problem with this type of hardware.

The voice quality appears to be very good in Skype to Skype internet phone calls though we feel it will very much depend on the quality of the wireless network and broadband quality/link speed. The Skype to land line quality however did seem to suffer at times. There was interference on occasions which did not  stop us hearing the other side but was very evident, however this again, it can be argued, could quite easily happen on a land line to land line or mobile to mobile call.
